The NFL season just kicked off and rookies are already making impact plays for their new teams. Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers has a high chance to make a run for Defensive Rookie Of The Year award this season. Bosa was slated as the best defensive linemen in all of college football last season. He was selected second in the NFL draft in April by the 49ers.

Bosa has a line of NFL pedigree in his family. His uncle Eric Kumerow, played in the NFL for the Dolphins and the Bears. Nick’s dad also played in the NFL for the Dolphins, and Nick’s older brother, Joey was drafted 3rd overall by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2016. Nick’s older brother Joey, has been one of the best defensive ends in the league since entering in 2016, so the expectations for Nick or sky high.

NFL analysts compare Nick Bosa to his older brother Joey, because they have very similar measurables, and both use their size and power to get after the quarterback. Bosa was ranked as the 3rd best player in the nation out of Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Kansas. Bosa then attended Ohio State University and showed the havoc he can cause coming off of the edge. Bosa only spent three years in college before turning pro after his junior season. Unfortunately, Bosa suffered a core muscle injury against TCU and was sidelined most of his Junior year. Bosa’s college stats include 77 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 defensive touchdown.

Bosa who checks in at 6’4’ and weighs 267 pounds at only 21 years of age, is a force to be reckoned with. What makes Nick a dominant pass rusher is his ability to get a quick get-off the snap and beat opponents in a variety of ways. He also has a nasty outside swipe move to go along with the power to bull blockers right into the quarterback. He plays with enormous effort and has made big plays in big games.

Bosa will join a talented 49er defensive line which includes Deforest Buckner, Soloman Thomas, Dee Ford, Arik Armstead, and now Nick Bosa. All who have been first-round draft picks in years past. Look for the 49ers to wreak havoc on opposing offensive lines this season. In week one, Bosa recorded his first career sack against Jameis Winston of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and hopefully the first of many more to come for Nick Bosa.
