After two weeks of NFL action, we can see already why Marquise Brown was the first receiver taken in the NFL draft. Brown was drafted 25th overall in the 2019 NFL draft by the Baltimore Ravens. Brown has a great shot at winning the Offensive Rookie of The Year award this season due to his playmaking ability.  Brown was tagged as the most explosive player in all of college football last season with Oklahoma. Which it does help as a receiver to have had Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray as your quarterback in back to back seasons( both won the Heisman trophy award, college football’s best player, and were selected number 1 overall in the draft).

Brown is listed as 5’9’’ 170lbs ran the 40-yard dash at 4.32 seconds, Brown believes he could have challenged John Ross’ combine-record 4.22, but was unable to because of a foot injury he suffered in college. Marquise Brown is the cousin of NFL superstar Antonio Brown who currently plays for the Patriots, which makes sense since they both make highlight-reel plays and where he gets his nimble body movement and quick footwork.

Brown got the nickname “Hollywood” because he was born in Hollywood Florida, but also for the highlight-reel plays he makes. During Brown’s sophomore season he collected 1,095 yards on 57 receptions to go along with 7 touchdowns, and during his junior season, he had 1,318 yards on 75 receptions with 10 touchdowns. In one of the final games of the season, Brown injured his Lisfranc injury is his foot.  Brown decided to forgo his senior season and to enter the NFL draft. He was unable to participate in the NFL combine in March, because of this injury. The NFL combine is where rookies get invited to show off their skills to gm’s and coaches.

What makes Marquise such an explosive player, is his speed and how he can create separation from the defender which creates easier throws for his quarterback. Brown is very versatile as he can lineup in the slot as well as be an outside receiver. He can also be the return man on punts and kickoffs for the Ravens. Brown has the potential to be one of the better receivers in this league. Not many offensive rookies have the talent Brown does, which makes him the number one candidate to win the Offensive Rookie of The Year award.
