“Venom” – a movie that came out October 5, 2018 – was one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Venom himself is a rather well-known super-villain from the popular comic-book brand, Marvel. There are a lot of controversies about the new movie, the main one being that Venom is not owned by its creator and is instead being used by the company, Sony. In fact, many believe that the only reason Sony created “Venom” was to piggyback off the success of Marvel’s own movie universe. That being said, this stopped no one from marking their calendars and waiting patiently for the movie to come out, popcorn ready.

The first person we are introduced to is a journalist named Eddie Brock, portrayed by actor Tom Hardy, and his fiance Anne Weying, portrayed by Michelle Williams. Eddie Brock has, as we soon find out, a tv show dedicated to trying to solve the world’s problems. However, Eddie tried to take down the Life Foundation and he soon came in contact with the symbiote, Venom.

Tom Hardy’s performance is magnificent and should be applauded by the masses. The realism that he puts into his movements as Venom is amazing, especially when you realize that he had to time a lot of movements very precisely and didn’t have a lot of resources to back it up from. At one scene, Tom Hardy had to time a backward jerk right as a guy appeared on screen, without looking!

The CGI was also amazing and captures everything a symbiote was ever thought to be. Venom was created directly from the comic books, although skipping out on the spider insignia on his chest, and the CGI perfectly mirrors the comic books with even better attributes.

The plot was hated by many movie critics on the basis that it had changed too much from Venom’s original Spider-man storyline. That being said, I thought it was nicely done. All it really did was take the origin story of Venom and just scraped Spider-man off the top and added a different villain. It was a wonderful movie and I recommend it to any super-hero fans out there.
