On October 20, the Lakers faced off against the Houston Rockets in a heated matchup. From the tip-off, it was an exciting game with dunks on both ends of the floor within the first few quarters, Lebron James scoring 9 points in the first 6 minutes and Brandon Ingram having 8 points. Before the end of the second quarter, James Harden made a strong drive drawing the foul on Ingram, stirring up the crowd and starting some trouble on the court. In a frustrated response, Ingram pushed Harden and players began to rally around, mouthing and shoving one another. Chris Paul and Rajon Rondo began mouthing one another. Things escalated when Paul put his finger in Rondo’s face with a little bit of force, pushing him backward. Retaliating, Rondo hit Paul in the face getting the whole team involved. Ingram rushed over to take a jab at Paul as well. This resulted in Ingram and Rondo being ejected and Paul with a technical foul. With Rondo and Ingram out of the game, all the pressure was on James to finish the game strong and lead the Lakers to a win. Throughout the game, it was tough with multiple lead changes and multiple arguments. Going into the fourth quarter, the Rockets held the lead by 4 points, making an effort to fight back into the game. LeBron made two consecutive drives to the rim scoring the first and being fouled on the second. Sent to the line with only 40 seconds left on the clock, he made the first free throw and missed the second, causing the Lakers to leave with the loss. After the game, interviewers asked LeBron for his comments on the Paul and Rondo situation. He responded with: “I’m not disappointed in anybody, it’s a competitive league thing that will happen. We just have to move past the situation and continue to get better and focus on winning games.” Respecting the game and his teammates with his response closed the evening in Los Angeles.
